In order to effectively build anything that will continue to grow and leave a legacy we must be looking to the next generation of leaders. This principle can be seen in sports, business, families, churches and many other successful organizations that leave a lasting impact through building leaders.

The first step in building leaders is to identify them. In order to identify someone whom we should intentionally invest in we should look for people who are F.A.T.

F – Faithful

An Emerging Leader must be Faithful.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you           will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” Proverbs 3:3-4 (NIV)

“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much,          much more will be asked.” Luke 12:48b (NIV)

  • Are they faithful with what/who God has given them to steward (Finances, family, influence, etc.)?

A – Available

An Emerging Leader must be Available.

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send                 me!” Isaiah 6:8 (NIV)

  • Are they available (ready to be used) to God, no matter what the job is?
  • Do they live the life of a servant?

T – Teachable

An Emerging Leader must be Teachable.

If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself;
but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.” Proverbs 15:32 (NLT)

  • How do they respond when others attempt to teach them?

We must constantly be working on identifying F.A.T. leaders so that we can build people…God’s most valued possession.

Think about it…

  • How well do you identify Emerging Leaders in whom you can invest?
  • Why do you think leaders must be F.A.T. (Faithful, Available and Teachable)?
  • Who, in your life, do you need to begin to intentionally invest in so that they can be developed as a leader?

Prayer point…

Ask God to give you wisdom (James 1:5) to be able to identify and invest in Emerging Leaders.
